The Patrick Miracle

The Miracle of Patrick: Patrick was a victim of the worst cruelty to animals that you will ever find. For some unknown reason, the owner had starved this pit bull puppy to as near death as is medically possible, stuffed the puppy in plastic garbage bag and threw him down a garbage chute. A custodial employee at the apartment complex who cleans out the garbage every few days found this dog Wednesday, March 16th 2011. While they were washing out the dumpster and gathering the garbage for the trash compacter the bag moved a little and the man opened and found this moribund dog inside -- dangerously thin, deathly cold and almost lifeless, his fluttering eyelids were one of the only signs of life.

Newark Animal Control was notified and ACO Arthur Skinner rescued the dog and took him to the Society. The veterinarian immediately put him on intravenous fluid. His temperature was so low that it did not even register on the thermometer. Society vet tech Gina DeSalvo held the pit bull in her arms -- she soothed him, gave him warmth, comfort and bits of food.
